My Grandma

My grandma deserves the best in life because she makes me happy when I am down. She has always turned my frown upside down. She is always on my side. She believes in what I do, cares for me and always love me as no body could ever do. Nobody can replace my wonderful nana, she makes my heart beat fast, cheers me up with all her love. My nana loves me so much that I forget myself and my worries.

Caught Being Good Grand Parent

Dear Mrs Baker,

My grandma Riana has done a lot of things for my brother and me. When I was little she would take me to lots of places. She would take me to the pool, the park, and she would even take me up north to meet my cousins whom I had never met before. Sometimes when we’re at the shops she would buy me a lolly.

On Saturdays we would go to the White horse or we will go to the Pakuranga league club. She would take a cold drink for her as well as to me. She is a very affectionate person. When my dad fell from the tree and was injured his head, she was there to give him comfort and took him to the hospital. I love my nana and would be happy to give her anything.

RWC 2011

Tuesday 25th October 2011

Learning Intention: I am learning to write an explanation.

The All blacks were playing France in the finals for the world cup 2011. All blacks didn’t play very well because they only got one try. Because of Piri Weepu they could not get more points otherwise they would have thrashed France.
France played well because they had good defence and they got a try and a goal kick. The captain got the try for France and they would have won by the penalty kick but they didn’t because the kick didn’t go through. The final score was 7 to France and 8 to All Blacks.
France was shocked because they lost and they were bursting out tears but the captain was strong. The All Blacks were bursting out with happiness because they won the Rugby World Cup for 2011.
France got the silver medals and the All Blacks got the gold medals and the Webb Ellis Trophy. The All Blacks won the RWC twice now for our country.
They were singing the national anthem and went around the field waving at the supporters. It was an excellent opportunity for us to watch this game.

Rules for playing Rugby

How to Play Rugby

LI: I am learning to write the rules for playing Rugby Union.

Rugby is popularly called "the game for animals played by gentlemen." The game is in two main forms, rugby union and rugby league, with their own ways to play. Rugby union is normally played in Europe especially England, while rugby league is popular in Australia and New Zealand.

Instructions

1. Assemble two teams of fifteen players each.

2. Start play with the defensive team kicking the ball to the offensive team.

3. Run with the ball until tackled. You may also pass or kick the ball to a team mate, but you cannot pass the ball forward.

4. Release or pass the ball if tackled. If released, the ball is open for anyone to take.

5. The game is only stopped on a rules violation, two opposing players grabbing the ball (known as a ruck or maul) or the ball going out of bounds.

6. Restart play with a scrum after a rules violation, such as a ball dropped forward or a forward pass, or a ruck or maul.

7. This is when the forwards on the team lock up in a huddle and push for the ball by kicking in backwards.

8. The ball is thrown into the scrum by someone on the team that did not commit the violation.

9. Restart play with a line-out if the ball went out of bounds, the forwards on each team line up facing each other.

10. The team that didn't knock the ball out throws it back in, and the players contest for possession.

11. A score is worth five points for a try, which is person touching the ball to the ground in the goal area.

12. A kick is then attempted through the goalposts for two extra points.

13. Score three points for a goal, by kicking the ball through the goalposts while play at a penalty.
Try playing the game. It is lot of fun.

Science Experiment

Experiment

Put one spoonful of sugar into one of the bottles use the plastic funnel to guide the crystals into the bottle. Add the sugar slowly so that it does not block the neck of the funnel.

Repeat step 1, placing each of the other solids (fine sand, instant coffee granules, plain flour) in its own bottle. Now half fill each bottle with water and screw on the cap. Shake each bottle ten times.

Look carefully at each bottle to see if you can still see solid particles. Decide which solids form a solution and which solids form a suspension.

Solutions and Suspensions

LI: I am learning to write an introduction to my Science Project.

Solutions and Suspensions

It is very important to know and understand the introduction to a particular topic to carry out the experiments successfully. My project is about “Solutions and Suspensions”

Introduction
Solutions

A liquid in which a solid substance has been dissolved.

Example: Sugar and Water

Suspensions

The particles in suspensions are larger than those found in solutions. Components of a suspension can be evenly distributed by a mechanical means, like by shaking the contents, but the components will settle out.

Example: Oil and Water

Sound

Learning Intention: I am learning to listen to the key words.

You can hear sound on EARTH because there is air but if you go into space you cannot hear any sound because there is no air.

Sound is a type of energy created by vibrations. Also sounds can travel through water, air, and in solids. When sound bounces off any object we can hear an echo.

A sound travels like waves. These waves create vibrations. We can hear these vibrations.

Sound travels faster through solids than in water. Sound travels faster in water than in air.

Japans Biggest Earthquake and Tsunami

LI: We are learning to write an Information Report.

Japan is experiencing its greatest hardships since World War II, Prime Minister Naoto Kan says. This earthquake, tsunami, and a crisis at a nuclear plant have caused so much pain to the people of Japan. Police say that the death toll in one of the worst-hit areas is likely to go more than 10,000. It is such a nightmare to know our friends are suffering so much.

A big explosion has hit a nuclear power station in north-eastern Japan which was badly damaged in Friday's devastating earthquake and tsunami. A building housing a reactor was destroyed, but the authorities are saying that the reactor itself was intact inside its steel container.

A huge rescue and relief operation is under way in these regions which has killed lots of people. All readers have been describing what life is like after the earthquake. Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan has warned that the shutdown of several nuclear reactors is likely to lead to a shortfall in electricity supply.

It is really sad that these people in Japan have no electricity, it is so cold now and what will happen to the aged people? Who will look after them??? How will they bear the cold??

Christchurch Earthquake

LI: I am learning to write a Message.
HI my name is Richard and I am a year 7 student at Tamaki Intermediate School. I am sorry that your loved ones have died. We are wearing red and black to remember you.
We have all donated $2.00 to help you rebuild your schools and some of the buildings. Even though I am in Auckland it still affects me. We have donated 300 dollars.
We also thank all the people who have come from all over the world to help us.

Christchurch Disaster

Hi my name is Aluat and I’m a year 7 student at Tamaki Intermediate School in Auckland. It is very sad that your town has been wiped out. The most sadness I think is that hundreds of people have lost their lives and over 165 people have been killed by the buildings those have fallen on them because of the earthquake. Many of the buildings are destroyed.

Today Tamaki Intermediate students are wearing red and back clothes to support what has happened in your town and all of us have donated $2.
This money is going to those people in need. We are trying to rise three hundreds that will be sent down to schools so they can have books, pens and pencils to help students to start their schools immediately.
We are happy for all those people who have donated money to help people buy food, water and other necessary things to start their lives. It is very sad that everyone there are leaving Christchurch to go to other cities in New Zealand because of fear that it can happen again and again. I hope that your town can again see the beauty it had earlier.
